AI’s big ears

In early August became known that passwords can be leaked through the microphone.

Researchers from Cornell University in the USA reported that they taught the AI model to recognize the typed text by the sounds of keystrokes. When recorded by a smartphone that is located next to the keyboard, the AI model recognizes passwords with 95% accuracy. When the sound is recorded via Zoom, the accuracy drops slightly to 93%.

Less than a year has passed since AI learned how to use a thermal imager to recognize passwords that users had recently entered on the keyboard of computers, ATMs or smartphone screen. Now, AI doesn’t even need to “look” at you to figure out all the passwords. Simply listening how you work is enough.
